LILLIAN AHIADZRO

CLASS OF 2029

COMBO WING

I was just a little girl when I lost my dad, leaving my mom as a single parent to 5 children. She worked so hard to try to take care of us but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to take care of us. At 8 years old, I decided to follow a group of teenage friends to the big city of Accra to make a living for myself without thinking of anything. There were days that we were sleeping outside of shops and in front of people’s houses.

I started working with men building houses for food money. One day I was walking, was very hungry, and I got to a place where young boys and girls were running up and down with balls in their hands and they were very happy and having fun. Just for a moment, I stopped to watch how and what they were doing. The next day I went there and asked the coach if I could join. They took me in a trained me: they sacrificed their last money to feed me and later on, sent me to Coach Oxy to show me how to achieve goals and to learn how to earn a college scholarship with basketball. I never knew about sports because it wasn’t supported back in the village, and they didn’t believe in women being in sports.

Charm Basketball Academy and Finest Basketball @ Cresset Christian Academy took me in and are helping me further my education, achieve my dreams, and give back to upcoming younger ones in my society.
